Care instructions for our PET rugs

PET rugs are made from recycled plastic, offering a durable and more environmentally friendly alternative to other synthetic products. They are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. PET rugs are also relatively colourfast and do not fade significantly when exposed to sunlight.

Preventive actions

To keep your rug in good condition for years to come, it is important to handle it properly. Vacuum the rug regularly, both on the top and backside, to prevent dirt from becoming embedded. Be sure to vacuum carefully along the edges and any fringes.

To prevent uneven wear, rotate the rug periodically so that it wears more evenly and retains its lustre longer. If suitable, protect the rug from heavy furniture by using furniture pads and castor cups to reduce pressure on the rug fibres. Avoid dragging furniture across the rug, as this can cause damage.

Additionally, ensure that generously sized doormats are placed at entrances, as this is the single most effective measure to extend the lifespan of your rug.

Cleaning

Regular vacuuming is usually sufficient. For best results, use a vacuum cleaner with a rotating brush nozzle. Please note that we advise against using robotic vacuum cleaners, as they can damage both the rug and its edges. If possible, the rug can be aired outdoors or cleaned using a garden hose or a pressure washer on a low setting. PET rugs may appear to get dirty more quickly than natural fibre rugs, as their closed fibres cause dirt to remain on the surface rather than being absorbed into the material.

Stain removal

For stain removal, first absorb as much liquid as possible using a colourless, absorbent cloth. Work from the outer edge of the stain towards the centre to prevent it from spreading. Use a mixture of lukewarm water and our mild cleaning solution, On the Spot. This product can also be used on ingrained stains. Follow the instructions on the bottle’s label for best results, and be particularly careful not to rub too hard, as this may cause visible differences in texture and colour once the stain is removed. A complimentary bottle of On the Spot is included with every rug purchase.

Important notice!

Over time, a textile rug will almost always develop indentation marks from furniture, which may become noticeable if you rearrange or move your furniture. Some marks may fade over time, while others may never disappear completely. Additionally, delivered rugs may sometimes have a broader indentation running across the entire width. These occur when the rug is rolled up for shipping but will gradually disappear once the rug is unrolled and put to use.

Please note that slight variations in colour and appearance may occur between deliveries due to different production batches. Also, all flooring materials are affected by sunlight over time.

If the rug is used outdoors during prolonged periods of rain, it must be allowed to dry thoroughly between uses. This is because the fibre will deteriorate over time if the rug does not have sufficient time to dry. When the rug is not in use, it may, once dry, preferably be stored lying flat in a dry environment. If this is not possible, it should be rolled carefully and you must ensure that no creases form, as these may easily become permanently visible.

If the rug is to be stored rolled up for a prolonged period, sustained pressure may cause permanent creases and make it difficult – or even impossible – for the rug to regain a completely flat surface once it is re-laid. The fibres may become damaged or permanently flattened in areas that have been compressed, which affects both texture and appearance. There is also a risk of colour bleed or transfer between different parts of the rug, especially if it is kept in unfavourable temperature or humidity conditions.

If the rug comes into contact with saltwater or chlorinated water, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water. PET rugs should not be used on plastic or vinyl flooring, as plastic-on-plastic contact may cause migration, potentially leaving marks on the surface.
